A 4-year-old boy from Torrance who had been lost was found safe and sound Friday morning after spending the night in the woods.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office says the boy, Christian Ramirez, was camping with his family at the Rancheria Campground at Huntington Lake.

The boy was last seen just before 11 a.m. on Thursday. Before calling for help, the family had looked around the area for about an hour.

Over fifty members of the relief crew, deputies, and volunteers went to the campground and looked for the boy all night, but they couldn’t find him.

Around 8 a.m. the next morning, the Tulare County Search and Rescue Team found the boy about a quarter mile from where he was last seen. He was found living in a tree hole.

The boy was found to be in good health, but he was tired and hungry. He had been alone for about 22 hours in a place where officials said there was dangerous wildlife and rough terrain.

The boy was taken out of the woods and to safety on video of the rescue. He was only wearing a t-shirt and shorts, and he was given a meal before his worried parents finally found him.

It’s not clear how the boy got separated from his family in the first place, but officials are telling campers to be ready before they go into the woods and to keep a close eye on their kids, pets, and family.

In the Central Valley area, about 300 miles north of Los Angeles County, you can find Huntington Lake.
