A Pregnant Teen Loses Her Baby, and Police Shoot Another Teen Inside a Stolen Car That is Linked to Two Carjackings
Police in Wisconsin shot and killed an 18-year-old pregnant woman during a chase related to car thefts. The woman had “life-threatening injuries” and lost her baby.
Around 2:23 p.m. local time on Thursday, June 20, Milwaukee Police Department officers “attempted to conduct a felony stop” at the intersection of N.17th Street and W. Vliet Street. This was in relation to what the department said on Facebook were two “armed robbery carjackings.”
The car was “blocked by the construction and a cement truck” in a work lane while it was being chased on Interstate 43. When police told the suspects to get out, the driver “reversed the vehicle and struck a marked squad car.”
“The suspect driver moved the car forward and then backward.” Behind the car, a cop was found. At that very moment, another cop fired his gun into the car, hitting two suspects. “There were a total of six suspects in the car,” the report says.
A 17-year-old boy also had “serious injuries,” according to the police. Both of the suspects were “transported to local hospitals for treatment of their injuries.” Some of the other suspects, who were between the ages of 15 and 18, were treated for minor injuries.

An official Facebook post from the police department says that a gun was found in a stolen car. A news conference from Police Chief Jeffrey Norman told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that it wasn’t clear as of Thursday afternoon if the suspects had fired shots.
At the scene, a woman from the area told ABC station WISN that she “definitely heard shots,” but she didn’t know “who fired shots first.” She also said, “It was just a lot at once.”
Norman said that both of the people whose cars were stolen were “OK.” The thefts happened before the chase in the 500 block of N. Broadway and the 500 block of N. Jefferson Street.
“There are a lot of young people in this city who are doing bad things.” “This is not okay,” Norman told the Journal Sentinel. “Parents, what’s wrong with your kids? How can people in our community help keep our kids behaving in a good way instead of the way we see them today?”
“This should never have happened. … There are no winners in this particular situation,” he said. “So I’m asking the community, let’s take our kids and embrace them in a positive way to engage in positive behaviors and not in these unacceptable behaviors we saw today.”
Also, the department said that “criminal charges will be referred” to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office and that the Milwaukee Area Investigative Team is looking into what happened, with the West Allis Police Department leading the “ongoing investigation.”
