A Woman from Georgia Sues Tennessee After Her Kids Were Taken During a Traffic Stop!
CNS News–A Georgia mother has initiated legal action in Tennessee following a distressing ordeal during a routine traffic stop, which resulted in the separation of her children from her custody for an extended period. The lawsuit, which names the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department, Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) troopers, and Department of Children’s Services (DCS) employees as defendants, stems from an incident that occurred in February of 2023.
Deonte Williams, Bianca Clayborne, and their five children were en route to a funeral in Chicago when they were pulled over by THP troopers on I-24 for a minor traffic violation. During the traffic stop, troopers discovered a small amount of marijuana and a firearm in Clayborne’s possession, leading to the arrest of Williams due to his status as a convicted felon.
Despite initially intending to leave the children in Clayborne’s care, troopers escorted the entire family to the Coffee County Jail, where they were handed over to DCS. The lawsuit alleges that DCS and local law enforcement officials forcibly separated the children from Clayborne, placing them in foster care for 55 days.

The traumatic ordeal inflicted emotional distress on the family, with Clayborne’s attorney emphasizing the unjust nature of the detention and its profound impact on maternal and familial bonds. The incident has reignited concerns about the overreach of law enforcement and child welfare agencies in cases involving minor infractions, highlighting the need for greater transparency and accountability in the handling of such situations.
Clayborne’s attorney has underscored the urgency of seeking justice for the family and ensuring that similar injustices are not perpetuated in the future. As the legal proceedings unfold, the lawsuit serves as a stark reminder of the profound consequences of systemic failures within the criminal justice and child welfare systems. It underscores the imperative of safeguarding the rights and well-being of individuals and families, particularly in vulnerable situations where the actions of authorities can have far-reaching and devastating impacts.
