A Woman in Texas is Charged With One Murder, but Police Say She May Be Linked to 20 More Deaths
There have been at least 20 deaths in Texas that police think may have been connected to an assisted living center and the person who ran it.
Regla “Su” Becquer, who ran “Love & Caring for People LLC,” was charged with leaving or endangering a person who was in immediate danger of getting hurt in March.
Police say that Becquer’s allegedly illegal home-based healthcare business, which provides care to several community living homes around Texas, was accused of neglect, not giving enough care, theft, fraud, and abuse, among other things.
The study has grown since then.
According to CBS News, Lt. Kimberly Harris of the Arlington police said, “After everything we’ve learned, I think it’s clear to say she did not love or care for anyone.” “What we saw and heard in these homes made us very worried.” I can tell you that wasn’t even the worst part.
The Arlington Police Department says that since September 2022, officers have found the bodies of more than 20 clients.
Police said that for the past few months, the Behavioral Health Unit and the Homicide Unit have been working together to look into the deaths and see if any of them are strange.
They found that most of the clients’ bodies had already been buried, burned, or given to science. CBS News said that two of them had autopsies, though.
“It’s important to note that many of the deaths occurred months or in some cases, more than a year before our investigation began — and so most of these clients have already been cremated, buried, or had their bodies donated to science, making it challenging for us to investigate their deaths more thoroughly,” Tim Ciesco tells PEOPLE.
On Thursday, June 20, police said that 49-year-old Becquer was charged with one count of murder in the death of Steven Kelly Pankratz, whose body was one of the two that were autopsied. The police say Pankratz died from a mix of drugs while he was being supervised by Becquer.
“We believe she knowingly gave Mr. Pankratz medication he was never prescribed, leading to his death,” he says.
Becquer is still being held at the Tarrant County Jail. The bond for her is $1.5 million.
