American Woman Reported Missing in Bahamas After Attending Yoga Retreat, Family Claims
There is a 41-year-old woman from Chicago who is missing in the Bahamas. Her family is “deeply concerned” for her safety because she went there for a yoga retreat.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force says that the woman, Taylor Casey, was last seen on June 19 near Paradise Island, a small vacation island just off the coast of New Providence.
Police put out a missing person flyer, but it didn’t say anything about how she went missing or whether they think foul play is involved.
Casey’s family is now begging people to help them find her and telling anyone who knows anything to call police in the Bahamas.
Casey’s mother, Colette Seymore, said in a message on a Facebook page set up to find Casey, “We are very worried about Taylor’s safety and well-being.” She wants to go home with her family.
The family said in the release that Taylor went to the yoga retreat “to fulfill a long-term goal of deepening her practice.” She has been doing yoga for 15 years.
Seymore said she thinks Casey is in danger because her daughter was “eager to share her yoga retreat experience with others upon her return.”
“Taylor would never do something like this,” the mother said.
During a short interview with CNN, Seymore said she was going to the Bahamas on Tuesday but didn’t say anything else.
CNN has talked to a family representative to find out more.
Casey’s family said she was “a light-skinned Black woman, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, 145 pounds, with brown hair and eyes.” Most of the time, she wears a durag over her natural hair.
In January, the US State Department sent a Level 2 travel alert to the Bahamas, telling Americans who were going there to “exercise increased caution” because of crime.
The warning says that most crimes happen on the islands of Grand Bahama and New Providence, which is close to where Casey was last seen. Also, both tourist and non-tourist places are affected by violent crime, such as break-ins, armed robberies, and sexual assaults.
