Another earthquake has hit the United States ahead of New Year’s Eve on Tuesday.

Over the weekend, two extremely rare earthquakes hit the state of Ohio. This has become a trend in recent weeks. Earlier in December, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Northern California. Later in the month, Alaska was home to an earthquake. The South and Midwest were hit by seven different earthquakes in one day in December, too.

Now, ahead of New Year’s Eve, Alaska has once again been hit by an earthquake. Thankfully, it doesn’t sound like it was that big of one.

The Alaska earthquake struck hours after a 3.3-magnitude earthquake was reported in California on Monday, according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered in Fort Bidwell at a depth of 3.4 kilometers (about 2.1 miles).

The Fort Bidwell earthquake struck days after a 6.7-magnitude earthquake was reported on the Kuril Islands on Friday (December 27), according to the United States Geological Survey. The earthquake was centered at a depth of 162.6 kilometers (about 101 miles).

It’s been a popular month for earthquakes, with dozens of them being on record in the United States in December.

Thankfully, only a select few have caused real damage, but it’s still a worrying trend.
