Atlanta Gang Member Arrested Following Discovery of Stolen Guns and Drugs in Vehicle

Police in Atlanta said earlier this month that they found drugs and stolen guns in the car of a person who was known to be in a gang.

APD officers were at the corner of Hollywood Road NW and Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy NW when they saw a 2016 Nissan Maxima driver make a U-turn that wasn’t allowed.

When police stopped the car, they found out that the driver was King Travis, who is a member of Y.F.N., a criminal street gang that is part of the Inglewood Family Gangster Bloods, according to detectives.

Travis has a long history of crimes that began in 2011. He is being held without bond in the Fulton County Jail on gang charges right now.

An arrest affidavit says that when police checked his car, they found seven guns, prescription pills, and marijuana. Court records show that police also arrested and charged King’s riders, Demetrius Travis, Kortez Currie, and Quindarrious Holland.

“He was leaving a funeral that had something to do with the murder,” said Lt. Derrick Jones, commander of the Atlanta Police Gang Unit.

Police think Travis brought the guns to his friend’s funeral because he and other people there were afraid that a rival gang would try to harm them.

Jones also said, “If you’re a criminal street gang and you’re out here committing crimes, we’re coming after you every day, all day.”

APD says that crime-fighting programs like Operation Heatwave and the hard work of the department’s specialized teams have helped them crack down on gangs, guns, and drugs.

According to statistics from the APD, their violent crime unit has arrested 100 gang members, found 221 stolen guns, and made 388 gang changes since January.

It’s because of this that violent assaults and thefts have gone down 13% since this time last year, according to APD. Killings of people have also dropped by 3% compared to this time last year.
