Break-in in a California Gun Shop, $40,000 Worth of Guns Are Stolen; “We Have Them All” is Seen on Video
Early Monday morning, someone broke into the side of a family-owned gun shop in Newcastle and stole guns worth at least $40,000.
Police spokeswoman Elise Soviar said that around 1:20 a.m., someone was caught on security camera taking off the siding off of Foothill Firearms, 213 Taylor Road, making a hole to get in.
The thief left the store with up to fifty guns.
The co-owner of Foothill Firearms, Jaimie Kuntz, said she got a call at 4 a.m. from the store’s security company telling her that the alarm was going off. She also got a call from a nearby business owner telling her that her store had been robbed.
“(The owner of the business next door) said she saw them running away and heard something rattling in their bags,” she said.
Not long after getting the call, Kuntz said she and her family went to the store to start counting things and fixing the hole in the wall. The family called the Sheriff’s Office, the Department of Justice, and the ATF to report the theft.
Kuntz says that surveillance video showed the thief trying to hide their crime but failing.
She said, “They tried to spray paint the camera to block it, but they only painted the one that doesn’t work, so we have them all the way through.”
Kuntz said that the guns that were stolen were worth at least $40,000, or between $900 and $1,800 each. However, the company is still figuring out how many guns were stolen and how much the damage cost all together.
Kuntz said, “This is a mess for a small, family-owned business.”
The Sheriff’s Office said that they were looking into the theft and using the video to help them come up with a possible description.
