Burglary Suspect Who Went Viral for Crying After Judge Recognized Him From School Lands Back in Jail
A burglary suspect became popular in 2015 when a video showed him crying when the judge said she recognized him as a classmate from middle school. He is now back in jail.
Arthur Nathaniel Booth, 58, was caught on Wednesday for a series of crimes that happened in August, according to police in Miami.
Police say that in one case, he knocked on the victim’s door and said he was a water tester.
Cruz, a spokesman for the police, said, “Once inside the house, he went around the house, found a jewelry box, stole jewelry from the victim, and ran off in an unknown direction.”
Booth is accused of a similar crime he committed against someone else while pretending to be a plumber.
“Once inside the home, he actually snatched the chain of the victim and fled,” Cruz told us.
An 85-year-old man who was robbed told NBC South Florida that Booth came to his home on West Flagler Street and asked him to open the bathtub tap. He said Booth grabbed his gold chain and ran as the man bent down to open it.
The man said the chain was important to him because he got it in Cuba.
For the third time, Booth is said to have asked a woman for directions “and also conducted another chain snatch.”
Cruz said that they think Booth may be linked to other events.
“An individual like this needs to be behind bars,” he told us.
In front of Miami-Dade Judge Mindy Glazer almost 10 years ago, Booth was charged with burglary and was being chased by cops.
Glazer saw that Booth was a friend of hers from Nautilus Middle School and told him some nice things about himself.
“I’m sorry to see you there.” Glitzer told NBC South Florida, “I always wondered what happened to you, sir.”
Booth started crying and looked like he was overwhelmed with feeling.
“This middle schooler was the nicest.” “He was the coolest kid in middle school,” Glazer said. “I used to play football with him, all the kids, and look what has happened.”
She told Booth she was sorry to see him in court.
“Mr. Booth, I hope you can change.” She told him, “Good luck.” “It’s sad that we’re getting old.” I wish you luck, sir. I hope you can get through this without any problems and live a law-abiding life.
Online jail records show that Booth has been charged with many crimes, such as robbery, theft, home invasion, and robbery without a gun or other weapon. Information about the lawyer was not provided.
