Capitol Police Stop a 21-year-old Man With a Ski Mask and a Gun Outside of the Rnc Security Barrier
Just two days after what the police called an “attempt at assassination” on President Trump almost killed or seriously hurt him, US Capitol Police quickly stopped another scary scene at the Republican National Convention.
A lot of Republicans, RNC workers, and delegates crowded into the Fiserv Center in Milwaukee on Monday night for the first day of the GOP nomination contest. According to Milwaukee Police, a guy with a ski mask and a gun was seen by officers outside while Trump and his new running mate JD Vance were inside.
A 21-year-old man is under police arrest and is waiting to be charged after Capitol police stopped him on a street that is not inside the RNC security perimeter, which goes around the convention center for several blocks.
A statement given to The Independent said that the man, who was wearing a ski mask and a bigger tactical backpack on the hot and muggy city streets, was seen as acting strangely.
“On July 15, 2024, around 1:00 p.m., Milwaukee Police arrested a 21-year-old man for carrying a concealed weapon in the 1200 block of N. 11th Street. Capitol Police first saw the suspect in the street, wearing a ski mask and a big tactical backpack. He seemed suspicious, according to Sgt. Efrain Cornejo, a spokeswoman for MPD.
The United States Capitol Police did a subject stop and found that the suspect was hiding a gun in his backpack. In Wisconsin or any other state, the suspect does not have a valid CCW card. The suspect was caught, and charges are still being considered by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
When the person was searched, disturbing things were found: Fox reported that the man was carrying a “AK-47 pistol,” a mask that looked like the bad guy from the horror movie “Scream,” and a full clip of bullets.
A local news station, CBS 48, was told by Milwaukee police that he had been arrested.
The Independent has asked Capitol police and the Milwaukee Police Department to confirm the facts of the arrest and the things that were found on the man while he was being held.
Police from the MPD also told several news outlets Tuesday night that the man did not have a legal permit to carry a gun concealed in Wisconsin or any other state.
The suspect’s name has not been made public. The police have not said if they think the suspect was after the RNC.
Just a few days ago, a 20-year-old man with a gun got within 500 feet of Trump at a gathering in Pennsylvania. The shooter fired a few shots and hit the former president in the ear. The attacker was then killed by Secret Service snipers. Since then, Trump went to the RNC with a bandage over his ear while both parties condemned the attempted murder.
