Colorado student was shot in the face while scouting for a site for homecoming photos, according to authorities.
According to investigators, a 17-year-old teenager who was looking for a place to take homecoming photos was allegedly shot in the face by a property owner who also serves on the Mountain View, Colorado town council.
According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Brent Metz, 38, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, two counts of felony menacing, illegal discharge of a firearm, and two charges of reckless endangerment.
The sheriff’s office said deputies arrived to the 23000 block of Pleasant Park Road after a woman reported two trespassers on her property. The homeowner also informed her partner that there were trespassers on her property.
When deputies arrived, they spotted two automobiles on the side of Pleasant Park Road, and as one of them approached, he discovered a teenage kid bleeding profusely from his face.
Another youngster was beside the teenager, applying pressure to his friend’s wounds with a shirt.
Metz, the man accused of shooting the victim in the face through his car’s windshield, was standing nearby.
The victim informed the officer that he and a friend went to the property to inquire about using the spot to take homecoming photos.
After driving close the gate to the house, the boys jumped the fence and walked up the driveway to talk with the owner. But when no one appeared to be at the house, the victim informed the deputy, and he and his friend walked around the property to see if they could find the homeowner.
Still, no one was around, so the guys went to their vehicles, where the victims stated that they were drafting a note to the homeowner requesting permission to photograph their property.
As the boys were writing the note, the youngster claimed that a man he and his friend had never seen pulled up next to them, got out of his truck, and shot a round through the windshield, hitting the driver in the face.
The sheriff’s office stated that the gun reportedly used in the shooting was found inside Metz’s truck.
The sheriff’s office also told Fox News Digital that the two boys are unlikely to face second-degree trespassing charges because their intention to be on the property and ask the homeowner for permission to take photos was not malicious.
As of Thursday, the victim remained in the hospital with critical facial injuries.
Metz was taken to headquarters, where he was processed and placed into jail. He was eventually released after posting a $5,000 bond.
