Dallas, TX – A certified service dog named Bonya went missing in Dallas while under the care of a Rover pet sitter, leaving her owner, Anna Lazareva, devastated and pleading for her safe return. More than a month after the disappearance, Lazareva remains hopeful, offering a substantial $6,000 reward and continuing an ongoing search for her beloved 12-year-old companion.

A Heartbreaking Disappearance

Bonya, a six-pound certified service chihuahua, vanished after escaping from the backyard of a dog sitter booked through the Rover app. Lazareva, who was visiting her home country Russia with her son at the time, learned that Bonya had slipped through a hole in the fence and was left unattended.

“Every day, I do something to continue her search. We make fliers and posters,” said Anna Lazareva. “She is my everything. She is my family.”

Having raised Bonya from just three months old, Lazareva shared the deep bond they forged together over 12 years and multiple moves across countries and cities. Bonya was not only a pet but also a critical service dog aiding Lazareva with severe anxiety, providing emotional support and calm during difficult moments.

Community Support and Rover’s Response

The disappearance has sparked attention among pet owners, many of whom have reported similar issues with Rover sitters, as discussed in various Reddit posts recounting lost pets. Responding to the situation, Rover issued a statement confirming they’ve deactivated the pet provider involved and are actively supporting the search.

“Our team is working diligently to assist by funding printed flyers, posting on pet-finding platforms that alert local shelters, vets, and rescue groups, offering a significant reward for the found pet,” Rover said in their statement to CBS News Texas.

Lazareva has pooled resources alongside Rover to offer a $6,000 combined reward—$5,000 from herself and $1,000 from Rover—for any information leading to Bonya’s safe return.

Last Known Whereabouts and Identification

Bonya was last seen near Lakeside Drive in Duncanville. She is microchipped, which remains a critical tool for her identification and recovery. Pet owners and locals are urged to keep an eye out for the small service dog.
