NEW YORK — Delta said that a flight from Detroit to Amsterdam had to be diverted to New York’s Kennedy Airport on Wednesday because passengers were given food that had gone bad.

The flight left Detroit around 11 p.m. on Tuesday and arrived in New York at 4 a.m. The next morning, there were reports that some of the meals served in the Main Cabin had gone bad, according to a statement from Delta.

The airport is run by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. A spokesperson for the authority said that 14 of the 277 passengers and 10 crew members were treated by medical staff when the plane arrived. None of them needed to be hospitalized.

There was no way to know how many people ate the bad food.

Delta said it would look into what happened.

A Delta representative said, “This is not the kind of service Delta is known for, and we’re truly sorry for the trouble and delay this has caused our customers.”

The Port Authority said that passengers would be given hotel rooms and rebooked on trains to get to their next places.
