SPARTANBURG COUNTY, SC —
Someone was killed during a police chase of a stolen car that began in North Carolina and finished in South Carolina, according to officials.

Over the weekend, more information about the Friday chase that began in Rutherford County came to light.

Lt. Kevin Bobo of the Spartanburg Sheriff’s Office said that officers joined the chase of the stolen car when it went into the Chesnee area.

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office said in a post on social media that the stolen car was in an accident and kept going.

Bobo said that Chesnee police and two traffic cops were able to stop the stolen car on Highway 11, which led to one of the back tires deflating.

Bobo said that video proof taken by a police officer showed that the driver shot himself before leaving the road and wrecking.

According to him, the police were able to get the driver out of the car and give him first aid until EMS came.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger says the event took place in the Fingerville neighborhood.

This person said the driver was from Dewberry Hill in Forest City, NC.

There was no doubt in Clevenger’s mind that the man killed himself while driving.

The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office has not given out any other details.
