New York police say that sisters Hailey Trumble (19) and Shelby Trumble (17) died on August 1 from their injuries.

In Cayuga County in upstate New York, two sisters were killed in a car accident. Their father found out about the terrible news after using an app to find their phones.

News from the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened in the town of Ira on Thursday, August 1.

According to the investigation, the sisters Hailey Trumble, 19, and Shelby Trumble, 17, were riding in a Chevy Cobalt that was going east on Ira Hill Road when it “came over a hill and crossed into the opposite lane, striking a second vehicle.”

What the sheriff’s office said was that Hailey and Shelby Trumble both died because of the injuries they got in the crash. The other driver was taken to Syracuse University Hospital with major injuries and is still there in stable condition, according to the police.

Brian Trumble, the sisters’ father, told Syracuse.com that he texted his girls several times the day of the crash when they didn’t come home from a trip to a Rochester amusement park.

According to the news source, Brian Trumble used the Find My Friends app on their phones to find out where they were and then drove to where they were. There, he met officers who had already blocked off the roads.

He told the news source, “It’s a terrible loss.” “Things will never be the same”

FingerLakes1.com said that Hailey and Shelby both finished high school in 2023 and 2024. They are both from the town of Granby.

“This is a very sad day for our students, faculty, and colleagues, and a terrible loss for the whole community,” the Hannibal Central School District said in a statement given to the news outlet.

The girls’ family set up a GoFundMe to help pay for the funeral costs. As of this writing, it had raised over $29,000.

A message on the fundraiser said, “In this terrible accident, the Trumble family lost two girls at the same time as daughters, sisters, granddaughters, and nieces.” “Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your love, kindness, and support during this very sad time.”

Syracuse.com reports that a service for the sisters will be held on Saturday, August 10.

The crash’s reason is still unknown, and police say the investigation is still going on. They want anyone who knows something to call 315-253-1132.
