Father Pleads Guilty After Brother Discovers Decomposing Boy’s Body Wrapped in Blanket, Officials Report
When a man from Wisconsin admitted to killing his 12-year-old son, he was given a minimum sentence of more than 45 years in jail.
Court records show that 45-year-old Romuan Jovaes Moye pleaded guilty to 1) reckless homicide, 2) chronic abuse of a child, and 3) failing to report the death of a child.
McClatchy News tried to get in touch with Moye’s lawyer but couldn’t reach him.
WITI reported that when Jay Moye, who was 22 at the time, went to his father’s house on Oct. 7, he found his 12-year-old brother Jacarie Robinson dead inside.
A criminal charge says that a witness told police that Romuan Moye had been “keeping (Jacarie) away from the family for the past few months.” He said that Jacarie was “extremely skinny” the “rare times” he did see him.
Romuan Moye had two other kids living with him. They were 15 and 17 years old, but McClatchy News claimed that they were with their mothers for two weeks before Jacarie’s body was found.
The court papers said that Jacarie’s body was “extremely malnourished and emaciated” and was breaking down slowly. Officials said that his body weighed 54 pounds after it was cut up.
In court, Jacarie’s mother told the judge, “When I read Jacarie’s autopsy, I could not believe it.”
News station WDJT said that Romuan Moye had been wanted by police for months after Jacarie’s body was found. In February, he was caught and put in jail.
Romuan Moye went to court on August 29. He got the maximum sentence for each count and will spend 47.5 years in jail followed by 20 years of being closely watched.
