Financial Aid Now Available for Kentucky Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
DAVIESS COUNTY, Ky. — A group in the area is helping grandparents who are taking care of their grandkids by giving them money.
The money is being given out by the Kentucky Family Caregiver Program through the Green River Area Development District (GRADD) in western Kentucky.
You can get up to $500 per grandchild per year through this program if you meet the requirements. This money can help with things like school supplies, furniture for the bedroom, clothes, tutoring, therapy, and short-term care.
Some requirements to be eligible for the program are:
These rules say that the grandparent can only take care of a child or children younger than 18 years old. The child’s parent cannot live in the same house as the grandfather.
The grandmother has to live in Kentucky.
They have to be connected by blood, marriage, or adoption.
The family’s income must be at least 150% of the poverty level for that size of family for the present year.
Lexi Camron, who works for GRADD as a Family Caregiver Support Specialist, says, “We want to help as many families as we can through this program.” “I strongly encourage anyone who thinks they could benefit from the program to get in touch with me.” We want to give this money to people in the neighborhood.
Calling the Aging & Disability Resource Center at 1-800-928-9094 for an initial screening and referral to the program is how people can find out if they qualify.
