First baby arrives 44 minutes into new year at Watsonville Community Hospital
The first baby born in Santa Cruz County came 44 minutes into the New Year at Watsonville Community Hospital.
At 12:44am Wednesday Magali Elias and Josué Reyes welcomed their first child, Ailany Galilea, to the world thanks to the folks at the Hospital’s Labor and Delivery department.
“I was not only born here in Watsonville, I was born here at the same hospital,” said Magali Elias, 19. “I used to say I’d never have kids, but right now this is such a good moment.”

Ailany, sporting a striped knit hat over a full head of dark hair, slept calmly during a photo session with the media.
She weighed in at 6 pounds, 14 ounces at 21-inches long. Several times one eyelid flickered open for a quick glimpse of the activity, where she clearly offered a brief smile, before dozing back off.
A little more than two hours later, Boulder creek parents Lily Adelia Kornher and Elijah Azmy welcomed Elliana Mae Azmy at Dominican Hospital. She arrived at 3:01am, weighed 6pounds and measured 21 inches.
