Florida Mom Arrested After Allegedly Joining Daughter’s Bus Stop Fistfight, Caught on Video
Two high school students in Florida got into a fight at a bus stop. Things took a surprising turn when one of the students’ mothers added to the fight.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office says that on August 15, officers were called to a bus stop in Daytona North, Florida, because friendship problems from the summer had carried over into the school year.
A deputy said that when two teenage girls got off the bus at the same stop, they decided to fight.
Videos of the fight were shared by the sheriff’s office. They showed how the fight took an unexpected turn when one of the mothers got involved.
Kathryn Stephanopoulos, 34, runs into the fight in the video and has a child in a headlock at one point.
In the video, you can hear one of the students say, “Yo, not the mom!”
According to the cops, Stephanopoulos’ daughter started a second fight with a child who tried to stop the first fight.
After the fight was over, the young man got into a fight with Stephanopoulos and hit the woman in the face with a metal cup.
“Did she just hit her with a Stanley cup?” a student asked on the video taken on a cell phone.
“Yes, she did,” said another friend.
The first kid said, “That’s crazy!”
Police said that Stephanopoulos was arrested on Monday and taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility for her part in the fight. One of the teens was jailed for aggravated battery, and the other was given misdemeanor charges to take to the state attorney’s office.
According to Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly, the mother got involved in the fight instead of trying to calm things down. She set a bad example for her child and the other people at the bus stop. “From what she did, she won’t be getting Mother of the Year.”
“Parents need to set the example and not be part of the problem,” he stated. “Luckily, no one was seriously injured, but now a mother is facing serious charges for losing control of her temper.”
