CNS News–Florida’s State Board of Education, in a significant policy shift, has implemented a rule prohibiting the use of state and federal funds for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs in the Florida College System (FCS). This rule affects all 28 state college campuses and is part of a broader strategy to reshape higher education in the state.
The board’s decision, in line with Gov. Ron DeSantis’s earlier legislation, defines DEI programs as those categorizing individuals based on race or sex for differential or preferential treatment. This move is seen as part of a nationwide trend where several states are reevaluating the role of DEI in education.
Additionally, the “Principles of Sociology” course has been replaced with a general education course in American History. This change is aimed at providing an “accurate and factual account” of the nation’s history, steering clear of what the board describes as “radical woke ideologies.”
