A lady in Polk County, Florida, with a history of misdemeanors is in jail after allegedly pulling out a gun and threatening to kill an Uber driver in the head when he refused to let her dog into the car.
Around 8 p.m. on Sunday near Mulberry, an Uber driver was dropping off a group of passengers when they asked him to transport them to another place after picking up their buddy Jasia Owens, 27. Owens approached the car with her dog and requested that it ride with them, but the Uber driver refused.
Owens then became enraged and refused to leave, according to Fox 13.
Owens and the driver got out of the car and started shouting, at which point Owens pulled out a revolver and pointed it at the driver’s head.
Owens also snatched the driver’s cellphone. The driver attempted to flee, but Owens kept him there. The driver eventually managed to flee and flag down a witness, who used their phone to call 911.
When Polk County police arrived, they discovered a 9mm Sig Sauer underneath a car in the driveway. According to a neighbor, Owens was observed attempting to flag down a ride from other neighbors following the event, claiming to be going to her sister’s house.
Police soon found Owens and arrested her. She has a criminal past that includes aggravated assault, grand larceny, and battery, and for this event, she was charged with armed robbery, a crime that may result in a life sentence.
This is not the first occasion in recent weeks that an Uber driver has been assaulted. In Texas, a disturbing security film captures an Uber driver punching an elderly passenger from behind after a disagreement.
Dallas police are investigating Wednesday’s attack in the Design District. Suleman Gauba, 68, said the incident began with a simple disagreement about legroom.
“I cannot sit in the back seat,” he stated. “Very small place, you know?” he told Fox4 during an interview. The video shows the Uber driver arriving in a Chevrolet Malibu to pick up Guaba and his wife on Market Center Boulevard in Dallas.
Gauba and his wife began to sit in the back seats, but after two and a half minutes, the automobile did not take off. Surveillance video then shows Guaba getting out of the car and walking around the back when the driver sucker punches him in the back of the head before collapsing to the ground.
