CNS News– Former Olympic gold medalist Caitlyn Jenner has voiced support for a local New York official’s order banning female sports teams with transgender athletes from using county-owned facilities. The ban, issued by Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, applies to over 100 athletic facilities in New York City’s Long Island suburbs.
Jenner, who came out as a transgender woman in 2015, argued that allowing transgender athletes to compete against other women will “ruin women’s sports” for years to come. She expressed sympathy for LGBTQ people but maintained that allowing transgender individuals to compete with women would undermine the gains female athletes achieved under Title IX, a law banning sex discrimination in programs that receive federal funds.
The LGBT Network, a Long Island-based advocacy group, criticized Jenner’s comments, calling them a “baffling contradiction” to her own identity as a transgender woman and harmful to the LGBTQ community. The group emphasized the importance of inclusivity and diversity in sports and expressed disappointment in Jenner’s stance on the issue.

Blakeman’s executive order requires teams, leagues, or organizations seeking permits from the county’s parks and recreation department to designate whether they are for male, female, or coed athletes. Any teams designated as “female” would be denied permits if they allow transgender athletes to participate.
The order has sparked controversy and legal challenges, with the Long Island Roller Rebels, a local women’s roller derby league, filing a lawsuit to invalidate the county order, arguing that it violates the state’s anti-discrimination laws. New York Attorney General Letitia James also condemned the order as “transphobic and discriminatory,” vowing to protect the rights of transgender individuals.
