Former South Carolina DMV Clerk Charged with Embezzling Over $19,000, SLED Reports
St. George, South Carolina —
According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, a former South Carolina DMV clerk was arrested and charged with embezzlement on Wednesday, August 28.
Shayla Singleton-Drayton, 44, has been accused of embezzlement of public monies.
According to the affidavit, while working as a customer support agent at the St. George office, Drayton embezzled $19,451 in public funds between December 1, 2022, and March 7, 2024.
According to the affidavit, Drayton confirmed to SLED officials that she stole the money and claimed it was to cover her bills and costs.
She was booked into the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.
