GOP Georgia Governor Says Donald Trump Wouldn’t Get Presidential Immunity: “Nobody Is Above the Law”!
CNS News–Georgia’s Republican Governor, Brian Kemp, asserted on Sunday that former President Donald Trump should not be granted legal immunity for his actions while in the White House, countering Trump’s arguments. Kemp emphasized the principle that “no one is above the law,” during an interview with ABC News’ “This Week” co-anchor Jonathan Karl.
The governor reiterated his commitment to upholding the law and the Constitution in Georgia. The comments from Kemp come amidst Trump’s facing four imminent trials for a total of 91 criminal charges. Trump has vehemently denied any wrongdoing, including allegations of participating in an illegal effort to overturn the 2020 election results, for which he has pleaded not guilty.
Kemp, along with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, resisted pressure from Trump to aid in reversing his loss in the state during the 2020 election. Their refusal led to Trump’s ire, with Kemp facing a Trump-backed primary challenger during his 2022 reelection campaign, which Kemp ultimately won.
Reflecting on the repercussions of focusing on the 2020 presidential election, Kemp emphasized the need for conservatives to shift their attention toward future-oriented issues. He urged Republicans to articulate their platforms and visions for the future rather than dwelling on past elections, underscoring the importance of leadership during crises.

Kemp’s victory in the 2022 election, he argued, demonstrated the effectiveness of running on substantive issues and future-oriented agendas. While Kemp has yet to endorse a candidate in the 2024 Republican primary, he encouraged former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley to continue her campaign despite pressure to withdraw following losses in early voting states.
Kemp emphasized the importance of allowing the electoral process to unfold. Regarding recent remarks from Trump criticizing Haley’s husband, who serves in the South Carolina National Guard, Kemp defended military families and refrained from directly addressing Trump’s comments.
Kemp also voiced criticism of President Biden’s handling of immigration issues, particularly at the southern border, condemning what he termed as Biden’s “utter failure” to address the situation. Along with other Republican governors, Kemp visited the U.S.-Mexico border, underscoring the need for strong border security policies.
Kemp called for bipartisan action in Congress to address immigration, expressing frustration with the lack of progress and emphasizing the importance of securing the border for the safety and security of the American people.
