Government Officials in California Say the US Biggest Trial Court Has Been Hit by Ransomware

The computer system of the country’s biggest trial court was shut down by ransomware, according to the Superior Court of Los Angeles County.

Police said in a statement Friday that the cyberattack started early Friday and has nothing to do with the flawed CrowdStrike software update that has caused problems for planes, hospitals, and governments around the world.

When the court found out about the attack, it shut down its computer networks. The statement says that a preliminary review does not show any signs that users’ data was stolen.

CNN station KCAL reported that the courts stayed closed on Monday as they continue to try to get back on their feet.

The Superior Court of Los Angeles County has 36 courthouses and serves the 10 million people who live in Los Angeles County. It is the biggest unified superior court in the United States. In 2022, there were almost 1.2 million claims filed and 2,200 jury trials.
