Green Bay Woman Arrested for Resisting Arrest Days After Sentencing for Deadly Fire
DE PERE, Wis. – A Green Bay woman was taken into custody on September 19 for allegedly resisting arrest, just days after being sentenced for her involvement in a tragic house fire that claimed the life of her 11-month-old nephew.
According to a criminal complaint, 20-year-old Marcelia Fonseca was arrested at the Probation and Parole Office in De Pere. Officers were called to assist in her apprehension due to an outstanding warrant for a parole violation related to a disturbance from the previous week.
The complaint details that when authorities arrived, Fonseca began verbally resisting their commands. Officers noted her history of similar behavior, which complicated the arrest process. Despite repeated requests to comply, she allegedly continued to resist both verbally and physically, leading to her eventual restraint and handcuffing.
Fonseca had been sentenced on September 13 for her role in the 2020 fire that resulted in the death of her infant nephew. At the time of the incident, she was 15 years old and faced charges of homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon/explosive.
For her recent arrest on September 19, Fonseca faces charges of Resisting an Officer, Repeater, a misdemeanor that could result in up to nine months in prison, with the possibility of an additional two years due to prior offenses.
Court records indicate that Fonseca was scheduled for an initial appearance in court on September 20. As the legal proceedings continue, the community remains concerned about the implications of her actions and the broader impact of the past incident.
This case highlights ongoing issues related to accountability and the consequences of juvenile actions that have far-reaching effects on families and communities.
