Greenwood Shooting: 13-year-old Injured, Suspect Faces Attempted Murder Charges
A 13-year-old was badly hurt in a shooting in Greenwood on Sunday morning.
According to a press statement, officers from the Greenwood Police Department responded to the 1100 block of Crescent Drive at approximately 1 a.m. for a complaint of an attempted suicide. When officers got on the site, they discovered a 13-year-old male who had been shot.
According to GPD, the youngster was transported from the scene to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. According to GPD, the 13-year-old remained in critical condition at 5:07 p.m. on Sunday.
According to police, the youngster was one of six youths who were playing with a gun before the shooting.
While the children were playing with the gun, another 13-year-old pointed it toward the victim and shot him. Following the shooting, five youths fled the scene, leaving the victim behind.
According to GPD, the alleged shooter contacted 911 to report an attempted suicide on Crescent Drive.
Police have arrested the 13-year-old suspect on preliminary charges of attempted murder. GPD reported that he is presently being housed at the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Facility.
Investigators are currently looking into the shooting. GPD investigators are working with the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office to evaluate whether additional charges should be filed in the case.
