Heavy Rain and Flash Flood Warnings Persist for Louisiana as Rafael Loses Strength

0

Louisiana residents are on high alert as Tropical Storm Rafael weakens in the central Gulf, posing a risk of flash floods and coastal flooding.

Minor coastal flooding may continue during high tide cycles, affecting low-lying areas in southeastern Louisiana and sections of Mississippi.

According to the New Orleans/Baton Rouge Weather Office, wind shear and dry air are weakening Rafael, which might disappear within the next day or two.

Despite the decreasing storm, heavy rains may create flash flooding, particularly near Interstate 55 north of I-10. Rainfall rates are forecast to be between 2-4 inches per hour, resulting in road closures and ponding in drainage regions.

A Coastal Flood Advisory is in force for low-lying coastal areas, where flooding may occur up to one foot above dry ground. Drivers should avoid flooded roads and obey barricades, as flood-prone areas remain perilous.
