HIGH-SPEED CHASE ON I-43: Two Arrested After Crash Injures Children and Causes Extensive Damage
Two people are now facing charges in connection with a police chase that resulted in a wreck on I-43 near Holt on Wednesday, October 9. According to the criminal complaint, Greenfield police were notified of a stolen car traveling southbound on 76th Street near Layton Avenue on Wednesday, October 9. The police started a traffic stop.
The accused are Qunderyl Girley Jr., 25, and Diamond Riley, 23. Following the crash, three persons were hospitalized, including two children.
When the vehicle was pulled over, the officer began making verbal announcements to the driver, later identified as Riley, that she was being arrested. According to the complaint, Riley left the vehicle and retrieved a child from the backseat.
The passenger, later identified as Girley, then took over the steering wheel and drove away. A pursuit ensued.
Riley attempted to run in front of the police car, using her baby and herself as a shield while Girley escaped, according to the complaint. The police were able to drive around Riley and the youngster and start the pursuit. When Riley was unable to stop that officer, she ran in front of a second squad to prevent him from joining the pursuit.
According to the complaint, Girley failed to stop at a stop sign at West Holmes Avenue and continued westbound on West Holmes. Speeds ranged from 50 to 70 mph. The vehicle then entered I-894 and began weaving in and out of traffic.
Girley then drove onto I-94, when his vehicle’s front tire popped off. Girley hit a wall on the right side of the road and continued to flee. According to the complaint, the chase on the highway reached speeds of up to 80-90 mph.
Girley departed Holt Avenue and re-entered the highway before colliding with another vehicle, which spun out and crashed into a wall on the right side of the road. The car spun out and collided with a wall on the right side of the road, then crossed traffic into a wall on the left side of the expressway. It came to rest against the wall.
A Milwaukee man has been legally charged in connection with a police chase that resulted in a wreck on Monday, October 7. The vehicle involved had been stolen.
According to the complaint, Girley was carrying a magazine loaded with 9mm ammo. An additional round was discovered in the car’s center console, along with a huge number of unused foil packs, a box of sandwich bags, two digital scales, and a large gallon-sized bag of a plant-like substance. An extra magazine, folding knife, and crack pipe were also removed from the vehicle.
Girley collided with a vehicle whose driver was in and out of consciousness, and there were two children in the car who needed medical assistance. One of the children was unconscious. Everyone was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.
Riley admitted to officers that she had no idea who Girley was. According to the complaint, Riley and Girley were in the booking room “professing their love for each other” after the interrogation, and Riley promised Girley she would not squeal at him. Riley explained that she walked in front of the squad cars because she wanted to know what was going on and didn’t want them to go.
In total, Girley is charged with second-degree willfully endangering safety, fleeing/eluding an officer, causing property damage, and operating a motor vehicle when revoked. According to court documents, he is being held in the Milwaukee County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
Riley is charged with impeding an officer, neglecting a kid, no specified harm occurred, and the youngster is under the age of six; and second-degree recklessly endangering safety. Her bond amount was set at $3,500.
