A 12-year-old child died in a hit-and-run incident in Fort Worth on Thursday night, according to authorities.
Apollo Rogers, of Fort Worth, was identified as the victim by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
According to a news release, officers responded at 8 p.m. to an auto-pedestrian collision near the 3700 block of Stalcup Road, near East Berry Street and East Loop 820.
When they arrived, they discovered that a youngster had been struck by a vehicle, likely an SUV, which sped away “immediately following the accident,” according to the release.
Police said the youngster was crossing the roadway at a crosswalk when he was hit by an SUV that had run a red light.
According to the release, first responders took the youngster, who was eventually identified as Rogers, to the hospital, where he died.
No arrests have been made, and traffic authorities were still looking into the crash late Thursday. No information regarding the probable suspect vehicle was revealed.
Officials with the Fort Worth Independent School District confirmed that Rogers attended Young Men’s Leadership Academy.
“In this moment of sorrow, we ask families for continued support for our campus community—our scholars and staff alike,” authorities said in a statement. “Grief counselors will be available on campus this morning to provide support and resources to those who need them.”
