Human Remains Were Found in a Wastewater Well Near the Apartment of Missing Student Caleb Harris

Corpus Christi, Texas – Police and several local news outlets say that unidentified human remains have been found near the apartment where 21-year-old college student Caleb Harris was last seen before he disappeared on March 4.

Corpus Christi, Texas, police said in a news release on Tuesday, June 25 that the remains were found by a city worker in a 40-foot-deep well on Monday, June 24. The worker called the police at around 3:30 p.m. local time.

The well, which collects wastewater, is close to the off-campus apartment where Harris, 21, lived, according to news sources like the Corpus Christi Caller-Times, the Beaumont Enterprise, and the San Antonio Express-News.

The well is also close to Harris’s school, Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi, where he is in his second year.

When cops found the bodies, they called for help from the Corpus Christi Fire Department. According to a news release released Tuesday, the firefighters “wore hazardous material suits to retrieve the remains from within the well.”

The Caller-Times claimed that the well’s waste water was drained so that the fire department’s hazmat team could get the bodies out.

Police say the bodies have been turned over to the medical examiner’s office, which is working to name them.

Authorities also said that the area where the remains were found had been searched for Caleb in the early stages of the search. The search eventually included local authorities, Caleb’s family and friends, as well as groups like the U.S. Coast Guard and Texas Search and Rescue.

An officer from the Corpus Christi Police Department told the Caller-Times, “This whole area has been searched many times.”

“Active and ongoing,” cops said, the search for Harris is still going on.

People asked the Corpus Christi Police Department for a word, but they didn’t answer right away.

Police say Harris was last seen on March 4 near his apartment complex, which is in the 1900 block of Ennis Joslin Road, close to the Corpus Christi campus of Texas A&M University.

The man from New Braunfels left his apartment around 3 a.m. to pick up an Uber Eats order, but Fox News said he left his dog inside the apartment. “Randy” Harris, his dad, told the network that his order had been marked as full, but he had “vanished.”

The Beaumont Enterprise said that the next day, his roommate found his order outside of the apartment where it had been brought.

Randy also said Caleb left his cash, keys, and car behind.
“Not only is there no proof of wrongdoing, there is no proof at all,” Randy told Fox News at the time. “And so it’s a matter of looking at every inch, everything we could think of.”

People were told by Uber that Caleb’s order was delivered without any problems and that the delivery person continued to make more pickups.

“It’s a mystery,” his dad told Fox News.

On Tuesday, more than $70,000 had been raised through a GoFundMe page to “help pay for the resources needed” to bring Caleb home.
