Indiana Man Caught Filming Intimate Moments of Ex-wife and Girlfriend With Hidden Cameras, Police Say
MADISON COUNTY, Ind – A Madison County man is suspected of employing concealed cameras to film personal moments with his ex-wife, girlfriend, and a minor girl.
Nicholas H. Peterson, 31, of Lapel, was detained on Oct. 18 after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He faces two counts of voyeurism, a Level 6 felony; one count of child exploitation, a Level 5 felony; and one count of possessing child pornography, a Level 6 felony.
According to court filings, Peterson is accused of spying on his victims with concealed cameras and collecting hours and hours of private material that includes his victims in various states of undress, as well as recordings of them performing sex acts.
According to court filings, Peterson concealed many cameras in his ex-wife’s home as well as the home where his girlfriend and her family lived. Peterson’s fiancée discovered his indiscretions, discovering a naked image of his ex-wife while going through his phone’s photo library.
After gaining access to his phone, she discovered the extent of his lewd surveillance operation and contacted authorities, along with Peterson’s ex-wife.
According to court filings, Peterson’s ex-wife discovered seven concealed cameras in her home after learning of the undercover surveillance. Some cameras were disguised as smoke detectors, some as portable speakers, and one as a desktop USB hub. A camera was even discovered hidden in the bathroom exhaust fan.
Hidden cameras were discovered in Peterson’s then-girlfriend’s home, including a teenage girl’s bedroom.
According to court filings, Peterson finally admitted to putting the cameras in his ex-wife’s home, but he claimed he did so before their divorce due to infidelity worries.
However, detectives discovered that Peterson did not purchase the cameras until far after his 2021 divorce.
Court filings show that officers conducted a year-long investigation into the footage, filing for search warrants and locating secure files on his phone. Thousands of films and photographs were discovered during the inquiry, including several tapes of Peterson’s ex-wife having intimate relations with her boyfriend.
Also discovered were nude photographs and films of the underage girl, as well as intimate videos of Peterson’s then-girlfriend.
If convicted, Peterson faces up to six years in jail for a Level 5 felony.
