Indiana Man Sentenced to 101 Years in Prison for 2019 Murder of Ex-girlfriend in Chicago Heights
An Indiana man convicted of killing a woman in Chicago Heights in 2019 was sentenced to more than 100 years in prison on Wednesday.
Drew Carter III was found guilty in June of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend Jessica Flores.
Her body was discovered in a wooded region of Gary.
She was 36 years old and a mother of six.
Prosecutors in Lake County, Indiana, confirm that the judge imposed 101-year prison terms on Wednesday.
Carter was convicted after a court denied a motion to dismiss the murder charge against him in September 2019. He remained in detention on a separate gun accusation related to his arrest, and prosecutors re-filed murder charges in October 2022.
However, Carter was freed on bail in 2023 because, under Indiana law, if a case is not tried within 180 days, the defendant has the right to be released while waiting.
