According to her relatives, an Indiana toddler died after taking a suboxone medication from a thrift store backpack.
On September 4, Azana Trentman, an 18-month-old kid, went unresponsive and was transported to the hospital when her parents suspected something was wrong, according to KFVS12. The kid was pronounced deceased on September 8.
According to KFVS12, the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the toddler’s cause of death while they await the results of an autopsy.
Suboxone is a drug used to treat opioid addiction, according to Harvard Medical School.
The child’s parents, Austen Trentman and Shayna Wood took her to a secondhand store in Dillsboro, where she was playing with a backpack as they browsed, Azana’s grandma, Tawnya Wood, posted on Facebook on September 7.
“At some point, Azana found something in the backpack and ingested it,” the author stated. “Austen took urgent measures to clear her mouth and induce vomiting because he didn’t know what it was. He tasted the substance, which tasted sweet and had the consistency of melting candy. Azana acted normally, so they assumed it was candy and went on with their day.
The girl’s parents later realized she needed immediate medical care and brought her to the hospital. She was stabilized and taken to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
After several days of testing, the toxicology result revealed that the substance was a fruit-flavored dissolvable suboxone pill, Azana’s grandmother reported.
Although Azana’s life was cut short, her parents decided to donate her organs to three recipients.
As of Saturday morning, a GoFundMe campaign launched while the youngster was in the hospital before to her death had raised more than $19,000.
