A federal judge ruled on Thursday that Texas lawmakers could not stop the Biden administration from removing the razor wire fence along the U.S.-Mexico border.
In the past, U.S. District Judge Alia Moses gave Texas officials a brief restraining order in the case. However, on Thursday, she turned down the state’s request because there wasn’t enough proof that the agents from U.S. Customs and Border Protection cutting the wire had broken the law.
Ken Paxton, the attorney general of Texas, said Thursday that he would fight the decision.
Notably, Moses’s decision gave Texas a chance to make its case again in the future and said she didn’t like how the Biden administration had handled immigration policies.
The person chosen by George W. Bush wrote, “The immigration system at the heart of it all, broken and dysfunctional as it is, would work if properly implemented.”
“What comes next is just another part of this tragedy that is still playing out.” The law may be on the Defendants’ side and force a decision in their favor today, but that doesn’t mean they can get away with being guilty and dishonest.
In this case: In the river near Eagle Pass, Texas built miles of hurdles out of barbed wire and buoys. This is the part of the border where the second-highest number of migrants have crossed this fiscal year.
The state was brought by the Justice Department to get the buoys that were in the way of the Rio Grande taken down.
