Kim Jong Un Threatens To Wipe Out South Korea, Other Enemies as North Has ‘Legal Right’ To Do So
In a recent statement, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un expressed strong opposition towards South Korea, labeling them as the main adversary. He further cautioned that his military would take decisive action to defend against any potential attack from the South, as reported by state-run media on Friday.
Kim delivered the remarks on Thursday during an address at the Ministry of National Defense, commemorating the 76th anniversary of the founding of the country’s military, as reported by the Korean Central News Agency.
“If any aggression is directed towards our nation, we will take decisive action that will have a lasting impact and will not hesitate to utilize all available resources to neutralize the threat,” stated Kim, making reference to South Korea.
The confrontational tone arises as relations between the two Koreas are currently at their lowest point in years. Last month, North Korea made a public announcement stating that it no longer seeks unification with South Korea. Kim emphasized the need for a constitutional change to officially designate South Korea as its “primary enemy state and invariably principal enemy.”
In his speech Thursday, Kim expressed his approval of the decision to designate South Korea as the “most harmful and primary enemy of our country” and emphasized the North’s commitment to assuming control and ensuring stability in the event of an emergency.
He stated that reclassifying South Korea as a hostile country gives them the authority to attack and destroy whenever they see fit.
North Korean Leader’s Daughter Raises Succession Speculation
Images released by KCNA depicted the North Korean leader in attendance at the anniversary ceremony for the Korean People’s Army, accompanied by his young daughter Ju Ae. South Korean intelligence officials have suggested that she may be his most probable successor.
The event occurred one day after the North’s rubber-stamp parliament eliminated its laws and regulations on inter-Korean economic cooperation, which has further strained ties with the South.
Furthermore, Pyongyang has maintained a consistent series of weapons tests throughout the year, which includes four cruise missile launches and the successful test-firing of a new intermediate-range solid-fuel ballistic missile.
Amid shifting alliances, North Korea has redirected its focus away from Washington and Seoul, forging a closer relationship with Russia. Speculation suggests that North Korea may be providing artillery and missiles to Moscow in support of its actions in Ukraine.
