The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said Sunday that a boat accident on the Tickfaw River killed two people and hurt six others.

Around 12:15 a.m. Sunday, the LDWF was told about the crash between two boats. The crash happened in the Tickfaw River close to Kings Point, the police said in a news statement.

When the LDWF arrived, they saw a 25-foot Sea Fox boat that had fallen and a 25-foot pontoon boat that was badly damaged.

A news statement says that an LDWF officer and someone else at the scene jumped into the water and found a 27-year-old woman trapped under the flipping boat. The woman was taken to the hospital, where she was declared dead.

The man’s body was found in the river around 12:45 p.m. Sunday. He was the driver of the pontoon boat and was 36 years old.

The release said that three people from each boat were taken to the hospital with major injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.

The reason for the crash is still unknown. The Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office will tell everyone what caused the deaths of the two people who were found. The names of the people who died will be made public later, the department said.

There were six people on the Sea Fox and seven people on the floating boat when they crashed. The department said that no one was wearing a PFD when the boats hit each other.

The LDWF Enforcement Division is in charge of looking into what happened.
