A man and woman were discovered dead in a Hialeah apartment on Tuesday night, along with a young boy who had been left alone inside the home for several days. Investigators believe it was a murder-suicide.

Around 9 p.m., Hialeah police announced that they were investigating a “domestic-related incident” that resulted in the deaths of an unidentified man and woman at an apartment complex on 605 West 68th Street. The three-year-old remained uninjured.

Lt. Eddie Rodriguez, a Hialeah police spokesperson, said the woman’s sister went to the couple’s apartment a few hours ago, at 6 p.m., after not hearing from her sibling since Saturday morning.

When she arrived, she knocked on the door, but no one responded. Rodriguez said she did hear her 3-year-old nephew weeping from inside the unit. She contacted 911 since she couldn’t force the door open on her own.

Police and Hialeah firefighters arrived at the same time, and the firefighters knocked on the door to discover a horrible scene, Rodriguez said.

“Thank God the child was not hurt,” he told the Herald.

Firefighters rushed the boy to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, where Rodriguez explained that he needed to be fed and watered as a precaution.

“I pray he never has to remember what he saw,” Rodriguez said.

According to Rodriguez, the youngster was with the sister’s family on Tuesday night, as well as Florida’s Department of Children and Families workers and Hialeah Special Victims Unit investigators. DCF will decide who takes care of the child, he said.

“We simply want to make sure we do what is best for the child. It’s in the hands of DCF,” he stated.

Police did not publicize the couple’s names Tuesday because the husband’s next of kin had not been found and told, Rodriguez said, adding that both are in their late twenties.

“If we ID her right now, they’ll find out too,” he told me.

The cause of death has not been announced, but Rodriguez believes it was a shooting. He stated that neighbors told police they may have heard gunshots Friday night but did not report the sound.

“This is a tragic case. “What we’re doing now is due diligence, and I hope this child never has to remember this day,” he explained.
