In Michigan – In a shocking case in Michigan, 41-year-old A. Aboukhodr is being charged with major crimes after allegedly abusing his pregnant wife severely when she refused to give him her pin codes. After Aboukhodr was arraigned, prosecutors charged him with domestic abuse, torture, and unlawful imprisonment. This showed how serious the charges were against him.

Aboukhodr is accused of beating his 22-year-old wife over and over again during a terrible 18-hour experience that started on July 14. The prosecutor said that this woman was abused by being hit with a belt, dragged upstairs, punched, and thrown to the ground. The woman started to bleed during the attack, and Aboukhodr is said to have told her that she “didn’t even deserve his child.”

Things got worse when the victim called her mother, who quickly called the police and gave her a short break from the abuse that was going on.

The fighting didn’t stop after the first episode. Aboukhodr is accused of hitting his wife again on July 21, just one week later, as she tried to leave the house, making her already bad position even worse. At the hearing, S. Vincent, the prosecutor, talked about how Aboukhodr strangled her when she tried to end the relationship and leave the house. This showed that the defendant wouldn’t accept her choice. The victim was finally able to get away and sought help at a neighbor’s house, which most likely kept her from getting hurt more.

During the arraignment, which was streamed by NBC affiliate WDIV, H. Hamade, Aboukhodr’s lawyer, said that his client has never been arrested before and that these are just accusations at this time. He said something about how serious the story was, but he told the court that the facts still had to be proven in court.

Hamade also said that Aboukhodr hadn’t been questioned by a detective yet and that the accused victim had said she didn’t want to press charges, but the prosecutor said she was afraid for her life. Even with these claims, the judge decided to set a high bond of $350,000 because the claims were so serious.

Aboukhodr is still being held at the county jail. Given that the victim is pregnant and therefore easily harmed, the charges of torture and illegal imprisonment are even scarier. There are a lot of people asking for a full investigation and the right legal steps to be taken to make sure that justice is done and that the victim gets the help she needs during this very hard time.
