Texas’s Smith County A guy was arrested in Smith County after police looked into claims that he ran an asphalt paving scam in several states.
Timothy Mark Adams reportedly ran scams in Smith County in 2020 and then left town. On Monday, he was found in an RV park in Florida after Smith County police were told where he was.
At the start of the probe, an older couple said they hired Adams in March 2020 after seeing an ad on Facebook for asphalt paving. Adams was supposed to pave their entrance, but they never showed up and took the money.
“He takes a lot of flights.” It was known that he would do this. “It doesn’t seem to have a conscience if you can hurt the weakest people in society in that way,” said Larry Christian, public information officer for the Smith County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities in Smith County worked together with agents in Hoover, Alabama, who said they were also looking into Adams for similar scams. Investigators from Smith County said they found out Adams was running these scams in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Texas by working with other police departments.
Before Adams left town, Smith County police got two criminal warrants and a grand jury indictment for him. He was accused of sending a threatening message to one of his victims.
On Monday, John Partlow, a fraud investigator for Smith County, found that Adams might have been living in an RV park in Taylor County, Florida. The sheriff’s office in that area talked to officials there, and then they found Adams at the RV park and arrested him on several warrants. He is waiting to be sent back to Smith County.
“There are a lot of driveway asphalt scams out there.” “Roofing is another big thing we hear about,” Christian said.
Apart from that, Partlow said that asphalt road scams are one of the most common types of fraud and cost people thousands of dollars every year.
Partlow said, “Never hire someone to fix your house until you check them out very carefully.” “Always wait to pay someone for their work before you do, unless they need money for supplies during the project.”
Christian said that people who come to Smith County to scam should think again because they will be caught.
