Man Set Up a Time to Meet His Newborn for the First Time. He Then Sneaked Up on the Baby and Family and Killed Two of Them
He tried to set his child on fire and then went on a shooting spree that killed the child’s mother and grandmother. The man was found guilty of murder more than three years later.
Last week, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C., said that Ebony Wright and her mother Wanda Wright were killed by Ebony’s ex-boyfriend in April 2021, after he planned to meet his baby for the first time.
He also shot Ebony’s sister in the face and tried to set the baby on fire in the April 12, 2021, attack in Washington, D.C., according to the police.
A statement from the U.S. Attorney’s Office said that the investigation showed that Ebony and Turner were dating when she got pregnant.
According to the police, Turner asked Ebony to end the pregnancy, but she refused. Because of this, he stopped talking to her. The statement didn’t go into specifics about when things happened, but a GoFundMe set up by the family says the baby was 4 months old at the time of the violent event.
Ebony sued Turner in a D.C. court for child support after giving birth to the child. It said that Turned then got in touch with her and asked to “meet his child for the first time.”
They agreed to meet at Ebony’s house in Washington, D.C., where her mother Wanda Wright and sister would also be.
Turner, members of the Wright family, and the baby had been in the house together for an hour before Turner went on his spree.
He hit Ebony in the head first, then Wanda, her mother, in the back of the head. Police say he then went to another bedroom and shot Ebony’s sister in the face.
Part of the statement from prosecutors said, “Before leaving the apartment, the defendant set fire to the child’s custody papers to try to kill the child.”
The police were able to identify him because he showed off a “unique” arm tattoo in a ring camera that he was trying to take off as he ran out of the apartment.
The statement says that Ebony’s sister, who is still alive, heard her nephew cry from the next room and got him out of the apartment before calling the police.
The GoFundMe says that Ebony’s sister, who was in college at the time of the killings, was getting ready to take care of her nephew after the tragedy.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Turner was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder while armed with aggravated circumstances, assault with intent to kill while armed, aggravated assault while armed, attempted first-degree murder of a minor, second-degree cruelty to children, setting fires, and destroying property.
His sentence is set for October, and the worst that could happen is life in jail.
