Mother Accused of Discarding 6-Month-Old Baby in Trash After Walmart Altercation Police Report
Police in Louisiana say a woman threw her 6-month-old son into a trash can during a fight at Walmart. The woman has been arrested.
Brionka Benjamin, who is 38 years old, was arrested and charged with simple battery and cruelty to children, which is a crime.
An officer was called to the Eunice Walmart around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 22 for a “fight in progress.” The fight was over when the police came. Officers looked at the store’s security video and said it showed Benjamin hitting someone else and then throwing her son into the trash can.
“It started out as a verbal argument, and it turned physical,” says Kyle LeBouef, chief of police in Eunice. “Once we saw the video surveillance, we knew what had happened.”
Benjamin says that Benjamin was holding her boy when she got into a fight and then “suddenly turned, threw the baby into the trashcan, and started fighting with them.”
The suspect is said to have thrown LeBouef’s son into the trash “so she could fight with both hands-free.”
He says, “You don’t know what’s in there.” “Glass could break.”
He says the baby wasn’t hurt.
He has no idea why the fight happened. LeBouef says, “We got different stories.” That was the start of things. One person said they didn’t like the way the other person looked at her.
It’s not clear right now if Benjamin has pleaded guilty or hired a lawyer.
