A drunk lady who crashed into parked cars abandoned her seriously injured son at the scene and told police that “her chance at a nursing career was over,” according to a report by Dallas, Texas, Fox station KDFW.

The 9-year-old son of Monica Tutt, 39, had a gash so deep that his skull was visible, as well as air in his brain, blood in his brain, and a fractured skull, according to police.

According to authorities, Tutt was speeding when the incident occurred early Wednesday morning on Arden Road in the Oak Cliff neighborhood. Witnesses told cops that the driver of the suspect vehicle attempted to drive away, but it was too damaged.

“[The witness] yelled at the suspect to unlock the car while the suspect continued to yell and scream, attempting to start the car back up,” according to the report. “She stated it was obvious that the suspect was drunk.”

One of the witnesses, Van Hines, told Dallas-Fort Worth NBC station KXAS that the suspect driver “tried to crank it up and go.”

“She was hysterical,” he explained. According to officers, Tutt’s sister arrived at the scene in her vehicle, and Tutt attempted to get into the driver’s seat. According to reports, the sister prevented her from leaving.

They pulled the lifeless boy out of Tutt’s vehicle before attempting and failing to put him in the sister’s automobile, according to police.

Paramedics arrived, and the sister and relative loaded Tutt into the vehicle before driving away, according to police.

Investigators eventually found Tutt using her license plate and images of her sister’s license plate, they claimed. Police apprehended her at her sister’s home and took her back to the collision site for questioning, according to reports.

[…] “kept saying that her chance at a nursing career was over,” according to the police. She also “kept stating throughout the interview, ‘I did the same thing I always do,’ and ‘I want my son.” Tutt said she had only a few drinks that night. In any case, police say she failed a field sobriety test and a preliminary breathalyzer. Police said that her eyes were wet and blurry, and her breath smelled strongly of alcohol.

Tutt was arrested in June 2023 when cops spotted her speeding and discovered she had multiple DWI arrests, according to Law & crime.

In connection with the accident, she was taken into the Dallas County Jail on Thursday without release for collision involving serious bodily injury and drunken assault with a car causing serious bodily injury.
