A driver hit a group of people walking near a bus stop in the Manchester Square neighborhood of Los Angeles on Thursday. The woman was killed, and her child was taken to the hospital. Officials say that the child and a third person are in critical condition right now.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, the accident took place in the 1700 block of W. 83rd Street around 1:30 p.m. LAFD firemen took the man, the woman, and the child, who may have been an infant, to a regional trauma center.
At about 5 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department reported that one of the victims had died from their injuries. Afterward, police said the woman was killed and that she was the mother of the child.
Police say that two cars were involved in the accident. One car was leaving a private lot when it was hit by another car. Police say the first car then hit the people who were walking on the curb “at or near” a bus stop.
Police reported Thursday that the driver was arrested at the scene of the accident on suspicion of driving while impaired. The names of the people who were in the crash have not been made public yet, and the probe is still going on.
