Mother of Las Vegas Teen Killed by Mob Decries Lack of Justice After Plea Deal
Jonathan Lewis’s mother thinks that the people who killed her son may be getting away with murder.
It was late last year when four teens were arrested on charges connected to the death of Jonathan Lewis. They agreed to a plea deal, which sent their case to juvenile court.
The teens, Damien Hernandez (17), Dontral Beaver (16), Gianni Robinson (17), and Treavion Randolph (16), pleaded guilty to voluntary killing after being charged with murder at first.
Jonathan Lewis, 17, died in 2013. His mother, Melissa Ready, told FOX 5 Las Vegas that she was shocked by the killers’ plea deal.
“I had no idea that I had a court date today… I also didn’t know they had a plea deal… “The DA told me about a week ago that they were going to plead guilty to murder and get at least two years in the adult system,” Ready said.
Ready said, “I wasn’t happy with the two years in the adult system, but it would have been on their record at least.” So far, no one has been punished for killing my son.
Robert Draskovich, the lawyer for Gianni Robinson, told FOX 5 Las Vegas that the suggested plea deal would change their case to juvenile court. This would erase the teens’ criminal records and keep them from being charged with Lewis’ death.
Draskovich also told FOX 5 Las Vegas that the four teens have not yet made a plea in juvenile court. The sentence will be given at a later time.
Jonathan Lewis was being beaten badly near Rancho High School in North Las Vegas on November 1, 2023. He was found in an alley. After a few days, he died in a nearby hospital.
