Nebraskan Dies Following Suspected Rabies Infection, Health Officials Report

0

LINCOLN, Neb. – The cause of death in the Nebraska Panhandle is being looked into because the person may have had rabies.

The Panhandle Public Health District said there is no risk to the public as a whole, but any family members or healthcare workers who might have been in touch with the person are being screened.

Officials say that people who are thought to be at risk are being given care after contact to help protect them from getting the virus.

The health district said that less than 10 people die each year in the U.S. from rabies.

Rats, on the other hand, are very dangerous to public health because they kill so many people who get them.
