Neighbor Accused of Killing Missing Oregon Newlywed Nurse Makes First Court Appearance
On Monday, the Oregon man who is accused of killing a nurse who went missing days after coming home from her wedding made his first court appearance.
The 27-year-old Jonathan Bryce Schubert was caught by the Beaverton Police Department. He was said to be Melissa Jubane’s neighbor and her body was found days after she went missing after not showing up for work.
Police say Schubert is charged with murder in the second degree, kidnapping in the first degree, and abuse of a body in the second degree. Because he is charged with murder, he is being held without bail in the Washington County jail.
According to KATU News, Schubert was shown on video during the meeting on Monday but did not enter a plea during his arraignment.
Officials said that after a thorough investigation, it was found that Schubert had something to do with her missing.
Schobert worked as a nurse at Providence Portland Medical Center from September 2022 to October 2023, according to FOX 12. Rhode Island said in a statement Saturday morning that Schubert did not work at Providence St. Vincent, where Melissa did.
After a three-day search, Jubane’s body was found on Saturday by Beaverton police. This was just two weeks after she got married to Bryan Llantero, who is from Kalihi, Hawaii.
“We are truly grateful to the people in the community who have helped us look for Melissa.” “We are very sorry for Melissa’s family, friends, and coworkers’ loss,” Beaverton police said in a previous statement.
“While we acknowledge the significant community interest and concern, we must withhold further details to preserve the integrity of the investigation,” the statement said.
Jubane’s family wouldn’t say anything about the probe, but they did give KATU News a statement.
“We are extremely grateful for the detectives and other staff working diligently on this case, for the love and support we are receiving from the entire nation (especially from the city of Beaverton and the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, her work family at Providence St Vincent’s, and the Llantero family), and for all the prayers.”
The Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) also said in a statement that they were sorry for Jubane’s death and would help anyone who was hurting.
Melanie Jubane was a great nurse at St. Vincent’s Hospital and a member of the Oregon Nurses Association. The organization is heartbroken over her death. Please accept our deepest sympathy for Melissa’s family, friends, and coworkers during this very sad time. We mourn with our community and offer our full support to everyone who has been affected by this terrible loss.
On Monday night, the group held a vigil in honor of Jubane.
Schubert is due in court on September 16 for a preliminary probable cause hearing. His case will be checked on Tuesday morning to see how things are going.
Anyone with knowledge about Jubane’s case is asked to call the Beaverton police at 503-526-2280.
