New York City Man Accused of Stalking and Cutting a Woman 40 Times in Her Apartment Pleads Guilty to Murder and Broken Glass
Based on police reports, a man from New York City admitted to following a woman into her Chinatown apartment and stabbing her more than 40 times. He also admitted to theft.
The Manhattan District Attorney, Alvin Bragg, said in a statement that 25-year-old Assamad Nash will be “held accountable” for violently killing 35-year-old Christina Yuna Lee on February 13, 2022.
“Today Assamad Nash was held accountable for senselessly taking Christina Yuna Lee’s life after he followed her into her own home,” said Bragg.
“Ms. Yuna Lee’s family and loved ones were deprived of a daughter, sister, and friend,” he noted. “My thoughts are with her family and our community as they continue healing from this tragedy.”
Nash said he followed Lee up to her walk-up apartment on the sixth floor and then “ran up beside her, pushed his way inside, and attempted to sexually assault her.”
People in the apartment building called the police because they heard a woman screaming.
The cops said that when they got to the Manhattan apartment, they found Nash hiding under a mattress and a bloody kitchen knife hidden behind the dresser.
The 35-year-old woman was found in the bathroom of her apartment with “at least” 40 stab wounds, some on her neck and chest.
The police said she was dead at the scene.
After the attack, many city and state leaders, such as Mayor Eric Adams and Gov. Kathy Hochul, called the murder an attack on the Asian American community.
Nash has a long criminal history in New Jersey. When he is accused of killing the person, he was on controlled release for three open cases.
