New York Powerball Winner Hits Big, Takes $2M Prize as Lump Sum
CNS –
The first five numbers in a Powerball drawing were matched by a player from New York who used a Powerplay option, and according to lottery officials, their jackpot was doubled, worth $2 million.
On June 19, Patricia Mandarino of East Amherst, New York, who bought her ticket at the 7-Eleven on Williamsville’s 8000 Main St., matched the numbers.
Mandarino additionally doubles the $1,000,000 second prize and offers an optional $1 Powerplay feature that lets players multiply non-jackpot prizes by up to 10 times.
Numbers 4, 27, 44, 50, 64, and Powerball 7 were the winning draw numbers.
Following the completion of all necessary withholdings, Mandarino requested and received a single payment of $1,302,000.
The Powerball game uses a random number generator that runs from 1 to 69 to determine the winning numbers. Each Powerball number ranges from 1 to 26, selected at random from a different field. Players can win the jackpot by matching the red Powerball number with any combination of the five white balls.
Powerball tickets are available at all New York Lottery retailers for $2, and they’re sold all day, every day. On draw nights, tickets must be purchased by 10 p.m.
The New York Lottery encourages players to purchase their tickets in advance to avoid waiting in line at the last minute; drawings are held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays at 11 p.m.
