Officials Say a Man Shoots a Woman and Himself After a Fight in the Home of Another Man
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said that a man was in critical condition after reportedly shooting and killing a woman in Lancaster early Sunday morning and then trying to kill himself.
The two were only named as Hispanic adults, a man and a female. A statement from the Sheriff’s Department on Sunday said that the guy confronted the woman in the home of another man in Lancaster. The attacker fired one shot into the house, but no one was hurt.
The suspect and the woman, “who is believed to be an estranged couple,” left the house together in the woman’s car, according to the police statement. There was a fight, and the car was stopped at East Avenue H and Challenger Way in Lancaster.
Around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, they got out of the car and started fighting again. The attacker shot the woman and killed her, then took off in her car, leaving her body behind, the statement said.
“At 2:09 a.m., the suspect drove to Palmdale and shot himself inside the victim’s car outside the home of a family member,” the Sheriff’s Department said.
A nearby hospital treated the suspect for what looked like a shooting wound. A spokesman for the sheriff’s office said Sunday evening that he was listed as being in critical condition. The spokesperson said that no more information about the event, such as who the suspect and victim were, was being shared at this time.
In a statement, the Sheriff’s Department said that homicide detectives were still looking into what happened.
The police asked anyone who knew anything about what happened to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
